Beginning in June 2021, the Board of Commissioners approved a three-year educational experiment where at least half of the PhD coursework is delivered online. In February 2025, the Board voted to grant an ongoing exception to the PhD residency requirement that at least half the coursework be completed on the school's main campus (Standard 5.15)
