Cultivating Human-Centered Leadership in ATS Schools

  • Price: FREE

Overview

By registration; "Beyond Pyramids: Cultivating Human-Centered Leadership in ATS Schools" will ask attendees to ponder: What practices can leaders at ATS schools adopt to cultivate human-centered communities of shared power within theological education? How might administrators, faculty, and staff move beyond hierarchical "pyramid" structures to foster innovation and sustainable leadership in their institutions?

Building on years of research in leadership, business, and practical theology and their own faith journeys, Rev. Kathi McShane and Rabbi Elan Babchuck suggest that there is a better way to lead–not with charisma or coercion, but with intentional power-sharing and human-centeredness.

Sponsored by The Isaiah Partnership of Princeton Theological Seminary (Pathways for Tomorrow Phase 2), this virtual workshop invites ATS leaders at various levels to engage in cultural observation, self-reflection, and theological practice to interrogate assumptions about how leadership functions in our lives, organizations, and foundational faith stories. This webinar is open to all ATS member schools and will be recorded for replay.

Kathleen McShane

Kathleen McShane is director of learning and innovation for the Texas Methodist Foundation. She is an ordained Elder in the California-Nevada Conference of the United Methodist Church, where she led four congregations and served for eight years as vice president for institutional advancement at Pacific School of Religion. Before attending seminary and beginning her life in ministry, she was a civil litigator, practicing law in the San Francisco Bay Area. As she led a large church in Los Altos (Silicon Valley), California, McShane co-founded the Changemaker Initiative, which is now a small national movement of churches committed to empowering lay people to become compassion-driven changemakers like Jesus. That work has led her toward multiple projects that are re-imagining leadership for the church of the future. It also led her to writing Picking Up the Pieces: Leadership After Empire (2024, Fortress Press) with her friend and hero Rabbi Elan Babchuck.
